Should some Permanent files be stored in a safe deposit box?*
Yes. You may store in a safe deposit box all original family certificates, titles, deeds, appraisals, and a home inventory list - also bonds, CDs, and a list of important numbers for accounts, insurance policies, and professional advisors. Place wills, trusts, and powers of attorney into a fireproof filing box in your home for accessibility. Keep a copy of all the above documents in your filing drawer. Visit our Forms and Lists page to download and print a safe deposit worksheet.
*NOTE: While FreedomFiler® provides a method of automatic purging which eliminates the need
to review files, you must ultimately decide which documents are kept two years, ten years, or indefinitely.
FreedomFiler® is not liable under any circumstances for claims of loss or damage arising from suggested
document retention guidelines. Consult a professional advisor to determine your specific document
retention needs and adapt your system accordingly.
