I have many ongoing project files cluttering my desk. Should project files be labeled ACTIVE or RESOURCE? How do I manage these types of files as my priorities change?
If you have many transient projects you can use project files (clear plastic sleeves available from office supply retailers) and simply tuck papers inside. You can quickly stick on a handmade FreedomFiler ACTIVE label, for flexibility and speed. The project file can then be placed into a desktop sorter (e.g. vertical slot organizer as shown on the Active/Resource instruction card included in the Home Filing Kit). When the active project file is no longer a hot item, the entire project file can be dropped into an A-Z Resource file spread (hanging files) for future use, that is, when the time comes to work on that project again. If the project is concluded and the papers are no longer needed the files can be discarded or filed by month as a back up.
