How does FreedomFiler suggest using month files for household filing?

Month files are an excellent choice and can be used in a wide variety of situations.

For typical home filing month files are suggested for batch filing any bills, statements, or receipts that are not tax related. (Note: tax related items should be filed in the light blue section and customized for your particular needs - also receipts for important property and assets should be filed in the red Permanent section under "Warranties" or "Home" or "Auto" etc).  Month files are very powerful when set up for a household system because they can hold miscellaneous notifications and various items that would otherwise not have a home or take too much time to file. Month files eliminate the indecision that causes many filing systems to back up with a "to file" pile. For example, "maybe I'll do that" - brochures, coupons, events you might decide to go to, or offers etc. Perhaps you come across an article you may decide to read sometime that month.  Filing items of low importance by month will prevent your desktop action file system from getting bogged down and eventually breaking. In short, month files let you get the filing done extremely fast and get on with life – so you spend less time filing and more time living.

After a reasonable period of time the outdated documents can be automatically purged.

Note also that month files are remarkably effective for retrieving recently filed documents which are most often referenced.  Also, you can often find a particular statement or bill faster from a month file rather than searching through a stack of statements to find a particular month.

*NOTE: While FreedomFiler® provides a method of automatic purging which eliminates the need to review files, you must ultimately decide which documents are kept two years, ten years, or indefinitely. FreedomFiler® is not liable under any circumstances for claims of loss or damage arising from suggested document retention guidelines. Consult a professional advisor to determine your specific document retention needs and adapt your system accordingly.
